Official Bio

Lukman Balunywa, Principal Cloud & AI Solutions Engineer, Microsoft Azure

Lukman Balunywa is a Principal Cloud & AI Solutions Engineer on the Microsoft Azure platform, where he has worked since 2019. He partners with enterprises on cloud architecture, distributed systems, and AI infrastructure, helping customers translate complex technical decisions into outcomes their engineers, customers, and executives can act on.

As one of the field engineers behind real-world cloud adoption, he is passionate about helping teams move workloads off legacy databases, design durable data platforms, and build AI systems that actually touch production.

Most of what he writes comes directly from customer engagements, architecture reviews, and migrations he has led or been close to. He has worked across data platforms, Azure compute and networking, and the boundary between language models and real systems of record.

Personal Bio

I am an architect, migrator, debugger, reviewer, writer, mentor, operator, customer advocate, troubleshooter, diagram-drawer, on-call responder, and occasional contrarian. And I probably forgot a few.

I like building things that have to keep running. Whether that is a database, a platform, or a team, I am interested in how systems behave when they get big, get old, and get woken up at 3am.

I believe in clear architecture, honest trade-offs, and software that respects the humans who run it. I am proud to work with customers who are trying to break free from legacy lock-in, modernize their data platforms, and use AI in ways that hold up under real load and real scrutiny.

I don’t deal well with hand-waving and hype.

Systems should be built to do useful things for real people.
